The Training, Research and Networking for Development (TREND) was established in April 1989 as a component of a UNDP-sponsored, World Bank executed project called the "Low-cost Human Waste Management Project in Kumasi." From its establishment until April 1995, TREND was located within the Department of Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Since the expiry of the donor support in 1995, TREND has been operating as an independent not-for-profit NGO with its Head Office in Accra.
TREND has operated as a legal entity in Ghana over the past 19 years as a resource centre offering services in research, capacity building, networking, process facilitation and general consultancy. TREND has current staff strength comprising 16 full-time multi-disciplinary professionals with specialization in Water and Sanitation Engineering, Waste Management, Institutional Development, Community Management, Development Planning, Project Management, Construction Management, Materials Development, Knowledge Management and Process Facilitation, Capacity Building and, Health and Hygiene promotion. TREND has operated in all regions of Ghana as well as in Anglophone West African countries like Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria.
TREND is committed to supporting the Government of Ghana's drive to improving the standard of living of its people, particularly the majority who live in rural areas and low-income urban areas.
